Aamir Khan wants the television premiere of 3 Idiots to be as memorable as the film's release last year. The star recently appeared on the small screen himself to announce the telecast date to set a new trend in satellite screenings of movies. Mr Perfectionist believes that even a small screen viewing, over six months after the movie's release, needs elaborate marketing.
And so for the 3 Idiots star, zipping from one event to the other, playing drums and piano and addressing the press is all in a day's work. The star was all over the place recently, Aamir launched the music of his forthcoming film Peepli Live at one end of Mumbai and soon after the launch Raju Hirani and Aamir dashed off to the suburbs where they were to be special guests on Indian Idol along with Sharman Joshi. On the show Khan and his two colleagues promoted the film's television premiere. The superstar also showed off his musical side as he played the piano and sang.
About 3 Idiots being aired on TV barely six months after its theatrical release, Aamir Khan said, "When a film is good people like to watch in theatre and then watch it again on television. But there are many who miss it in the theatre for some reason so this (the television premiere) is a great opportunity for them. I feel the right thing would be the film to first release in theatre, then on DVD and then on television after 6 months."
